THOUGHTS & PRAYERS
Within two hours, ‘Trump Survived’ merch is selling in the US

|

Former president and current presidential candidate Donald Trump has been shot during an election rally in Pennsylvania. The incident occurred at approximately 6pm Eastern Time on Saturday, overnight for Australians.

Multiple gunshots were heard before Trump was seen grabbing his right ear, which had been hit. Another round of final shots was fired while Trump remained on the ground.

Secret Service agents quickly created a human shield to escort him offstage and into a nearby SUV. Despite the chaos, Trump pumped his fist in the air three times, mouthing the word “fight.”

One person is confirmed to have died in the incident, and two others are critically injured. The shooter has also been killed by the FBI, who have declared the event a possible attempted assassination.

While the shooter’s motive has not yet been confirmed, it is assumed to be a politically targeted attack ahead of the US 2024 Election in November. President Biden responded with condemnation, calling the shooting “sick.”

With the gunman situated approximately 120 meters outside the rally, questions have also been raised about the adequacy of the Secret Service’s security measures.

Perhaps what’s most concerning is the public’s immediate response following the incident. Within two hours of the news being broadcasted, dedicated Instagram accounts selling ‘Trump Survived’ caps, t-shirts, and other merchandise went live for sale.

The broader, far-reaching impacts of today’s events are yet to be revealed. However, what we can say with confidence is that we suspect this will be the start of an incredibly long, tumultous election season.
