SO POVO Bin chicken announcement: Sydney’s richest Eastern Suburbs postcodes have an upcoming council clean up
BY: Kartya Vucetic
They say one man’s trash is another’s treasure, and there’s nothing quite like a Sydney Council Clean Up to prove that to us. Cost of living aside, I’ll be the first to admit that the adrenaline rush of snapping up roadside furniture and other goodies for the cost of, well, nada, is second to none. As far as I’m concerned, it’s a Sydneysider’s rite of passage.
If you’re anything like me, you’ll also revel in the good news that some of Sydney’s most wealthy Eastern Suburbs will be hosting Council Clean Up’s over the next month. Cue borrowing your cousin’s truck and scheduling a good ol’ Sunday arvo drive through the yuppie suburbs.
Speaking from personal experience, these once-a-quarter events have been the source of some of my most prized possessions. I’ve hunted down handwoven Afghani rugs, original 70s bedside tables, and a perfectly fine TV in the past. All have been generously donated by people who have too much money, too little time, or too few braincells to care about these rather expensive goods.
But buyer beware, Eastern Suburbs Council Clean Up’s are closer to a real-life version of Hunger Games than some form of charitable donation to those without a trust fund. Shit gets competitive, and the good stuff goes fast. My advice? Stop by the night before; most people will have it ready to go.
And if you’re looking to add these to a calendar, I’ve done the dirty work and summarised all the information you’ll need before venturing out (you’re welcome). Check below for all the upcoming dates.
Upcoming Council Clean Up Dates – Eastern Suburbs:
Bellevue Hill: 15 July, 22 July, 29 July (depending on zone)
Vaucluse: 12 August, 19 August (depending on zone)
