BROUGHT TO YOU BY CAMILLA KAFTANS Sydney feels relevant again after international celebrities walk the yellow brick road at Australia’s Wicked premiere

PICS: MATRIXIt’s timeeee! The Australian premiere of Wicked has finally arrived, and we might as well be kids in a candy shop. As far as I’m concerned, Christmas has come early.
On Friday, Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erivo, Ethan Slater and Marissa Bode touched down on Sydney shores in advance of the red carpet event of the year. Come yesterday afternoon, hundreds of fans had set up camp at the State Theatre. All with high hopes of catching a glimpse of the many international stars making appearances.
To no one’s surprise, both Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo stayed true to their film characters. Grande, who plays Good Witch Glinda in the upcoming film, sported a peachy pink, corseted gown. It was frills, embellishments and puff sleeve galore. She paired the look with a diamond butterfly necklace (as one does). Erivo, cast as Elphaba the Wicked Witch, also leaned in, donning an all black ensemble which she paired with a dramatic choker.
And of course, while we are still to stunned to speak about the arrivals of the film’s two protagonists, it would be unwise to leave the likes of Jeff Goldblum, Jonathan Bailey, Marissa Bode, Ethan Slater out of the conversation. Oh, and of course the one and only queen Delta Goodrem.
Like I said, Christmas really is here ladies and gentlemen.
Now, while we’d love to play a little round of fashion police…
I’ll be the first to admit that the star-studded lineup of guests who also made their presence known really did, step the fuck up. Literally everyone got the memo. Greens, pinks, frills, sparkles, drama.
Ok, maybe not everyone. Lol. Maybe not Lincoln Younes. And maybe not Ethan Slater, who looks like he’s a 17-year old going for an internship at his dad’s accounting firm. But also, he’s letting his lady lap up all the attention, so we’re not hating.
Our final comment of the day?
We have a sneaking suspicion that the Camilla might, in fact, be back. Bondi minimalists hate to see it coming. The designer dressed quite a number of guests in attendance, and it’s clearly a promo thing in the lead up to the brand’s new Wicked collaboration. Some might be mad, but frankly, I can’t wait for the day it becomes socially acceptable again to whip out a bedazzled kaftan and not be judged by a 22-year old for ‘not being with the times’.
Anyway, my internal monologue has officially concluded. Us peasants will be able to catch the film come November 21. In the meantime, you’ll have to just scroll down to check out all the piccies from the night.
