SLURPED, SORTED, SERVED An extremely useful guide to every oyster happy hour in Sydney right now

|

The people who try and convince you that the best things in life are free, are actually just broke. There, we said it. And when it comes to oysters, nothing rings more true. I don’t know, there’s something about those little revolting gems that really gets me going, and I guess that’s kind of the point.

But alas, I’m just a financially illiterate lady with expensive taste living in the middle of a cost of living crisis. Which means that when it comes to enjoying the finer things in line, it’s time to get a little creative.

First stop is oyster town. We’ve rounded up some of the best (and cheapest) places to score in Sydney, and surprisingly, there’s a lot on the list. In fact, I’m now wondering why I ever paid full price…

Anyway, I digress. I present to you a fully updated and comprehensive list of all the oyster happy hours worth checking out in Sydney rn.

Morrison’s Oyster Bar and Grill

I see no reason why the cost of living should get in the way of good taste, and neither does Morrison’s. If you didn’t already know, they’re kind of the go-to place for happy hour oysters in town. In fact, they sell a minimum of 6,000 oysters every week. Every Wednesday from 6pm to 7pm, you’ll be able to snag those little gems for $2 each, alongside $10 Aperol Spritzes and Negronis. The hard part? Scoring a booking, this place fills up reservations weeks in advance.

  • WHEN: Wednesdays, 6-7pm
  • WHERE: Morrison’s Oyster Bar and Grill, CBD
  • HOW MUCH: $2 oysters
  • CHECK IT OUT HERE.
The Bat and Ball Hotel

While The Morrison may have officially reigned supreme when it came to the cheapest oysters in town (alas, $1.50 recently became $2), The Bat and Ball Hotel might just be defying all laws of economics. On Saturdays, the iconic Redfern pub is basically giving them away for just $1 each. Of course, you can expect these to sell out quickly, so best bet is to arrive early.

  • WHEN: Saturdays until sold out
  • WHERE: The Bat and Ball Hotel, Redfern
  • HOW MUCH: $1
  • CHECK IT OUT HERE.

Arms Length

A new favourite recently added to our hit list is Potts Point local, Arms Length. Every Sunday from 12pm, they’re matching The Morrison energy with $2 oysters available until sold out. It’s also the perfect destination for boozy summer afternoons, and the outdoor, fairy-lit patio is a dream. Don’t fret if you don’t see the special on the menu, the secret of it is kind of the point.

  • WHEN: Sundays from 12pm until sold out
  • WHERE: Arms Length, Potts Point
  • HOW MUCH: $2 oysters
  • CHECK IT OUT HERE.
Sky Bar at Shell House

If this article is starting to prove anything, it’s that you really can do more for less. Perched above the CBD skyline is none other than Sky Bar, which conveniently hosts their own Golden Hour from Tuesday to Saturday between 4pm and 6pm. As if the $2 oyster has become some sort of competition, they too are serving them up alongside $15 prawn cats sandwiches and Don Julio margs.

  • WHEN: Tuesday to Saturday, 4-6pm
  • WHERE: Sky Bar at Shell House, CBD
  • HOW MUCH: $2 oysters
  • CHECK IT OUT HERE.
Pier One

Once a bustling seafood market home to oyster shuckers, crab cookers and fishmongers, Pier One now slings $2 oysters and $12 cocktails from 5pm to 6pm every afternoon between Monday and Friday. The best part? The bar sits quite literally on the waterfront, making their Golden Hour specials that bit more, well, special.

  • WHEN: Monday to Friday, 5-6pm
  • WHERE: Pier One Sydney Harbour, CBD
  • HOW MUCH: $2 oysters
  • CHECK IT OUT HERE.

The Rover

I don’t know what’s in the water over in Surry Hills, but for some reason it appears the restaurants over there just bloody get it. Local watering hole The Rover has similarly decided to get in on the action, serving up $2 Sydney Rock Oysters and $8 G&T’s every day from 4-6pm.

  • WHEN: Every day between 4-6pm
  • WHERE: The Rover, Surry Hills
  • HOW MUCH: $2 oysters
  • CHECK IT OUT HERE.
Gazebo Wine Bar

If the $2 oysters on Thursday’s weren’t already convincing, the outdoor patio and Palm Springs decor at Gazebo’s Wine Bar will sell itself. Every Thursday they’re serving up $2 Sydney Rock oysters that, for $4, can also be done kilpatrick.

  • WHEN: Every Thursday
  • WHERE: Gazebo Wine Bar, Potts Point
  • HOW MUCH: $2 oysters, $4 kilpatrick
  • CHECK IT OUT HERE.
Jane

Okay, so we might have got the insane $2 deals out of the way, but that doesn’t mean Surry Hills cool-girl hub, Jane, should be overlooked. Their Australiano Hour brings some serious elevation to the game, serving up $3 oysters, $11 Rhubi Spritzes and $16 lamb dumplings every day of the week. Best of all? It’s not restricted to one day, meaning you’ve just got to time it right.

  • WHEN: Monday to Wednesday: 5-6pm, Thursday to Sunday: 4-6pm
  • WHERE: Jane, Surry Hills
  • HOW MUCH: $3 oysters
  • CHECK IT OUT HERE.
The Clock

Surry Hills is coming in clutch yet again with The Clock, who’s slinging $3 oysters and $15 margs every Sunday afternoon. It’s kind of perfect timing really, the institution is basically known for people flocking there on a Sunday arvo to ward off the scaries.

  • WHEN: Sundays, 12-6pm
  • WHERE: The Clock, Surry Hills
  • HOW MUCH: $3 oysters
  • CHECK IT OUT HERE.
