THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS Double Bay residents sadly forced to get breakfast somewhere other than Indigo after Transvaal Ave ram raid

|

In a devastating blow to the eastern suburbs ecosystem, Transvaal Avenue in Double Bay was closed for most of today. It comes after a ram raid of a luxury consignment store left, which has left locals facing the unthinkable: a disrupted morning routine.

Police were called to the high-end retail strip in the early hours of Thursday morning after a stolen Volkswagen was allegedly used to ram into Luxury Consignment, with offenders reportedly fleeing in a second stolen vehicle after stealing a number of luxury items.

And while, yes, we suppose the alleged theft of high-end jewellery and designer goods is technically the main story here, one must also consider the broader humanitarian crisis unfolding on the ground.

Indigo was closed.

For the uninitiated, Indigo is not simply a café. It is a civic institution. A place where one may consume eggs for the price of a small utilities bill, stare thoughtfully into the middle distance, and overhear three separate conversations involving property, pilates and “the place in Cap Ferrat”.

Naturally, the closure sent gentle shockwaves through the community, with residents forced to confront the grim possibility of walking an additional 40 metres for breakfast. That is, to Bills for scrambled eggs, of course.

Our thoughts, obviously, are with them at this difficult time.
