Former Bachelor star Sam Wood appeared before Maroochydore Magistrates Court by video link and in prison greens this Thursday afternoon. His lawyers have been unsuccessful in seeking bail over domestic violence charges stemming from an alleged attack in Noosa.
Wood is charged with assault occasioning bodily harm in a domestic violence context and strangulation in a domestic setting. He denies the allegations, including that any strangulation occurred.
During Thursday’s hearing, the court heard Wood had been involved in an argument with one family member. Reportedly another family member approached him and was allegedly pushed away.

His solicitor Mathew Cuskelly told the court Wood may be able to mount a self-defence argument if the matter proceeds further, saying the circumstances surrounding the interaction would need to be explored.
Police meanwhile tendered photographs said to show injuries sustained by the alleged victim.
The court also heard the complainant had provided police with a video-recorded statement about the alleged incident. Sergeant Janette Grigoris told the court the complainant was supportive of the charges.

Police alleged a witness called Triple Zero during the incident and reported that the victim had been choked.
Sergeant Grigoris also raised an earlier alleged incident in Victoria which she described as “similar in nature”. Police had reportedly been called at the time, but the matter did not result in a complaint being made.
The court was also told Wood has been suffering from depression, with his legal team raising his mental health as part of the bail application.
His solicitor also noted he also wishes to, “salvage something out of his professional reputation, which has taken a hell of a beating”.
Wood denies the allegations.
