Sure, Sydney loves a new restaurant opening. But what does it love considerably more? Free food.
So if you’re like us, then consider the calendars officially cleared. Because Duan Noodle House opens in Marrickville tomorrow, bringing hand-stretched Chinese noodles, rich broths and a conveniently timed opening-weekend giveaway.
Officially opening its doors on Friday 10 July, the new 35-seat restaurant comes from chef Lucas Doan. He’s the person behind nearby The D’s Bar & Dining, but before opening his own venues, Doan spent almost two decades working across Sydney kitchens including Mr Wong and Luna Lu.

The menu centres on noodles made fresh daily in the open kitchen, including their signature Oil Spill Biang Biang Noodles with braised beef rib, knife-cut noodles, wonton noodle soup with prawn and scallop, pho ga, pho bo and bowls loaded with braised beef brisket.
There’s also Peking duck bao, prawn toast, roast duck san choy bao and steamed oysters with XO sauce, to name a few. From 5pm, the menu expands into seafood and Chinese favourites including rock lobster noodles, mud crab, roast duck and black pepper beef.

And while the menu celebrates the heritage of Chinese noodle-making, there’s also a distinct Vietnamese influence woven throughout the experience, serving as a reflection of Doan’s family hospitality roots in Saigon and his years working across Asia.
Perhaps most exciting, however, is that Duan is giving away 100 complimentary bowls of its signature handcrafted noodles across opening weekend. The first 50 will be available from midday on Friday 10 July, followed by another 50 from midday on Saturday 11 July.
They will presumably not last long, so arrive early or prepare to be disappointed.
Duan Noodle House opens Friday, July 10, in Marrickville.
