BREAKING NEWS “First phase” of Gaza ceasefire deal to go ahead as early as this weekend

|

In encouraging news this morning, Israel and Hamas have reached agreement on the “first phase” of a ceasefire deal which could begin implementation as soon as this weekend.

Under the terms announced, this initial step includes the release of some hostages by Hamas, and a partial Israeli withdrawal to a designated line. The agreement, which has been garnered by Trump, still needs final approval by the Israeli cabinet.

This development lands just after the two-year anniversary of the October 7 Hamas attacks, and follows a September UN Human Rights Council report that labelled Israel’s actions in Gaza as consistent with acts of genocide under international law.

If this “phase one” holds, hostages may be freed in tranches, military operations scaled back, and humanitarian access increased. But major challenges remain: how to ensure compliance, how far the withdrawal will go, and whether the ceasefire will hold when the next twenty proposed phases roll out.

Stay tuned, we’ll keep you posted as cabinet decisions come in and as implementation begins.
