FULL HOUSE Natalie Bassingthwaighte leads the arrivals on the opening night of Sunset Boulevard and “All right Mr DeMille, I’m ready for my close-up”

|

Musical season is officially upon us, and boy, are we ready for it! Aside from the return of Hamilton to town, Sydneysiders have just been blessed with the arrival of Sunset Boulevard this week. Cue my bank account hitting the negatives in three…two…one…

Not familiar with the show? All you need to know is that it’s an Andrew Lloyd Webber masterpiece. Yes, it’s the same guy who brought you Phantom of the Opera, Cats, and Jesus Christ Superstar). Essentially, anything that man touches turns to musical theatre gold, so rest assured it’s unlikely to underwhelm.

And it seems it’s not just musical lovers who are buzzing about the new production. Over the weekend, we spotted the stars rolling out in their best old Hollywood glam for the red carpet. Think long delicate gloves, statement earrings, and fur shawls—we’re back in the golden era, baby.

Special mentions go to Natalie Bassingthwaighte, who led the carpet and clearly enjoyed soaking up all the camera attention. I mean, if I looked like that, I’d probably do the same, tbh. There were also many of the usual suspects we expect to see on the carpet nowadays: Justin Hill, Jamie Azzopardi, and of course, Nasser Sultan (in his total and complete element). I must admit, the people dressed up, and they did it bloody well.

Anyway, enough of my yapping. Check out all the pics below and let us know what you think. If you’ve really been influenced, head over here to nab tickets to the new production. It’s running strictly until November 1, and tickets start from $49. That’s not too bad going for a Sydney Opera House production.
