RANDWICK RUNWAY The Sydney Everest Carnival Launch reminds us once again that horse racing still exists and hats can look like solar panels

|

The Sydney Everest Carnival officially launched this week, once again proving to us all that horse racing is still a thing, millinery is still an industry, and I’m still broke.

Because while most of us are googling “cheap petrol near me” and debating whether $26 cocktails are worth it (they’re not), Randwick was playing host to a scene of celebrities who were wined and dined on Tuesday afternoon in sharp suits, statement gowns and hats that could probably double as a solar panel.

As always, the horses weren’t really the headline at all. It’s always about who is who and what are they wearing. Think structured gowns, oversized tailoring, and the odd “why is that hat so aggressive?” moment thrown in. Because after all, if you’re going to socially acceptably drink champagne before 2pm, it has to come with a touch of theatre.

Did the event at times border on a Hunger Games-esque energy? Yes. Do we still relish in watching everyone who attended? Absolutely. Regardless, while you’re here you might as well scroll down and check out the pics from the day.
