GAY CHRISTMAS
Sydney turns up the heat for the 47th Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras parade

|

Ladies and gentlemen, the most wonderful time of the year has officially come round. And no, I don’t mean the birth of baby Jesus. I’m talking about gay Christmas, aka Mardi Gras, aka the one night of the year that Sydney might actually be praised for its nightlife.

It’s no secret that the whole town stops for a day, all to celebrate Sydney’s queer community, and pay tribute to the original Mardi Gras marches that started back in 1978. Oxford Street closes off, and the whole town lights up with enough glitter, rainbows and amyl to see us through until next March.

This year marks the 47th Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade, and like always, it did not disappoint. The theme was ‘Free To Be’, and while I ponder whether maybe something a little more creative could have been devised, I’m nevertheless 100% here for it. Perhaps what I was most impressed by was the sheer number of floats in attendance. Like, seriously, if you can think of it, there was a float for it.

But you’re not here for me, you’re here for the pics from the night. So it’s that time again where you scroll your heart away, and bask in the utter fabulousness that was this weekend.
