RECAP TIME We’ve finally suffered through MAFS’ last commitment ceremony

BY: Tahlia Pritchard

You probably wouldn’t trust the experts as far as you could throw them at this point of MAFS, but we’re nearing the end of the season and tonight marked the second last time we’ll see John, Alessandra, and Mel pretend to care about any of the participants.
Yep, it’s the final commitment ceremony, where our couples decide whether they’re going through to final vows or not, and the experts get a break until the reunion episode.
Let’s dive into who’s ready to stay until the bitter end.
Jamie and Dave: Staying
While the once fan faves are mainly back on track thanks to a $400 perfume, some Woolies flowers, and Dave remembering it’s nice to show your wife affection, Jamie is still hesitant about their future and John wasn’t having a bar of it.
John butted in to say the two of them don’t remind him of the people they were before the experiment (and producers) broke them, exclaiming, “I don’t even know you Jamie,” to the unusually subdued Jamie who used to love yelling at people over the dinner table.
While Dave talked about his feelings progressing towards Jamie and saying the last week has helped him come out of his shell, Jamie dropped a bomb by retracting her “I love you”, saying she wasn’t in love with Dave after their trials and tribulations.
Meanwhile Dave has done a 180 and said he can see himself falling in love with Jamie one day, and that he’s determined to keep building their connection. “I felt it before and I’m going to feel it again,” he said tearfully.
Y’all keeping up? Because these two just became about as confusing as Adrian and Awhina backflipping all over the place.

Rhi and Jeff: Obvious stay
Rhi and Jeff both know their relationship will work on the outside, haven’t had one argument during the whole experiment (something Ryan and Jacqui desperately can’t relate to) and they both confirmed they’re “on their way to falling in love”.
Expert John looks bored. Next!

Teejay and Beth: Awkward stay/leave combo
It’s taken me all season to remember these two exist, and we go back and forth again on Beth having feelings for Teejay, Teejay not feeling a connection with her, but then just not being honest about anything and giving wildly mixed signals.
Alessandra steps up to call Teejay out, saying Beth has been clear and consistent in her communication with him and he’s been dishonest to which is he looks surprised. After continuously stating there’s a disconnect between the two, Teejay then says, “I think we’ve had a wonderful connection from the start.”
Brother! This is why she’s confused by you!
He eventually gets out that the romantic connection isn’t growing for him, and he doesn’t want to string Beth along even though he seems to not realise that is exactly what he’s done all experiment.

BUT FOR SOME REASON, despite Beth having the worst week of her life and being made to feel shit because the guy she likes doesn’t like her back, she writes stay and he writes leave.
This is painful. Surely we don’t have to watch final vows with these two, I can’t take it.
Adrian and Awhina: Staying but uncertain what their future holds
Despite the fact these two have managed to delay their sinking ship and get things back on track, they still haven’t figured out what their future entails which is, well, a little tricky given Adrian allegedly runs a “business” in Sydney, and Awhina has her family, her child, and her community in Perth.

While Adrian is fine to do long-distance (we’re so sure he is, a girlfriend not watching his every move is likely to be this man’s dream), Awhina isn’t as sold.
IDK guys, might be time to just wrap this experiment up.
Carina and Paul: Zzzzzzz
They definitely existed on the couch, and definitely said some words, and definitely decided to stay.
I’d tell you what happened between these two, but I fell asleep | Image: Nine
Jacqui and Ryan: Ryan now held hostage
I mean, regardless whether you love her or hate her, Jacqui has kinda carried this show on her back all season and we know it’d be a shame not to see her deliver some truly bonkers final vows.
Jacqui was called out by the experts for basically saying she’s compromised the most in the relationship, to which John asked her to give him a list. She then cited that she’s compromised on their sleeping times because Ryan hates it when she gets up early for the gym, she’s compromised on the fact Ryan is incapable of putting his dishes away, and she even compromised on letting Ryan watch TV in their room even when it kept her up past midnight.
After John calls her examples niche, Jacqui hysterically sobs into a tissue while Mel encourages her to take deep breaths, and Ryan sits there with an air of depression.

After Alessandra asks Ryan if he thinks he’s good enough for Jacqui, he gives his version of a mic-drop, saying that it doesn’t matter because he’s good enough for himself, while Jacqui says that while she can’t accept all his behaviours she can accept him as a person.
I know what you’re thinking. What?! None of us know, not even the experts.
Ryan opts to leave, and Jacqui decides to keep him hostage until final vows, writing stay so they can “have a conversation”.
THERE’S BEEN ENOUGH CONVERSATIONS, GUYS, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD.
