IDIOT OF THE WEEK Astronomically stupid couple at Coldplay concert proves that people can be brilliant at data and still moronic in public

|

You’d think people smart enough to run an astronomy tech company would understand the concept of visibility. Alas, that theory was violently disproven overnight when Astronomer CEO Andy Byron and HR boss Kristin Cabot were caught on the kiss cam at a Coldplay concert, where they responded with all the subtlety of two teenagers caught making out behind the school canteen.

Cue Kristin ducking on all fours, Andy pulling a hard pivot, and Chris Martin casually announcing to the entire stadium, “Either they’re having an affair or they’re just very shy.” (Spoiler: it’s the first one.)

The man turned out to be Andy Byron, the CEO of Astronomer, and the woman was Kristin Cabot, the company’s Chief of HR. Adding to the shock, Andy is a married man!! Now, word of the cheating scandal has spread rapidly 😬 #coldplay #affair #awkward #embarrassing #shocking #coldplayconcert #fyp #dailymail #australia

The scene, captured and rapidly distributed across TikTok, Instagram and every Slack thread in the tech industry, has since ignited a total PR apocalypse. Not only were they two high-ranking execs from the same company engaging in what looked a whole lot like an interstellar entanglement, they were also joined by a third employee. Because nothing screams “we have a great workplace culture” like dragging another coworker into your colossally embarrassing scandal.

Let’s be clear: the stupidity here isn’t the affair (although, that works too). It’s the setting. A Coldplay concert at a packed 80,000-seat stadium, with a kiss cam and a frontman who, in case you hadn’t heard, lives for a wholesome viral moment.

Honestly, if they’d just leaned into it, given the crowd a polite smooch and waved, no one would’ve batted an eyelid. But the desperate attempt to not be seen only made it infinitely worse, and ultimately pricked every chronically online Gen Z’ers ears as to what mischief these two were up to.

So props to you two for being the first time we award our ‘Idiot Of The Week’ badge to two people. Because after all, nothing screams astronomically stupid like having an affair with your colleague on camera at a Coldplay gig… and then acting shocked when the internet notices.
