Awww….Now if this isn’t the Friday arvo cutesey pick-me-up you need then I don’t know what is. Today, we’ve spotted the Paul Mescal and Fred Hechinger curing their homesick woes and having a good ol’ fashioned Irish Chinese.
That’s right, we caught them in the act at Paddy Chans in Kensington.
What’s an Irish Chinese, you’re wondering? To be honest, it’s not an easy one to explain. Sydney Morning Herald describes it as “fried, starchy and (mostly) beige-coloured”. It’s like actual Chinese food but far worse. Think chicken meatballs, rice, chips and curry sauce.
It’s essentially the white man’s Halal snack pack.
“It’s definitely not an incredible culinary experience, or authentic Chinese food, but it’s something you crave when you’re miles away from home,” says Belfast influencer Riona Magee.
And while we could give them flack for their culinary choices, I’ll also be the first to admit that in the plethora of celebrities currently visiting Sydney just to do the Merivale-dining tour, it’s a refreshing change. It’s giving down to earth. It’s giving regular Irish lad. It’s giving “I’m not an actor for the fame, but for the craft”. And frankly, we love it.
The two are currently in Sydney celebrating the Australian premiere of Gladiator II, which screened on Wednesday this week. You’ll be able to catch it in cinemas come November 14.
