WTF Sydney influencers threaten to down tools (ring lights) and go on strike, claiming they’re working harder than doctors

|

Sydney has officially entered its most 2025 headline yet: a group of influencers are threatening to go on strike.

Yes, really.

The movement was born at AIIMS Creator Hub on Wednesday night, where over 100 creators gathered to demand the respect they say they’ve long been denied. Leading the charge was VeronicaB (800k followers across Instagram and TikTok), who told the crowd she’s had enough of being treated like a punchline.

“I don’t know how the world would survive without us,” she said. “How would people know where to eat if we didn’t do restaurant reviews? How would people know what to wear without outfit hauls?”

The talks of a budding union now joins the ranks of organised labour. Except instead of downing tools, they’d be downing ring lights. Veronica, who just released her debut single Touch Grass (a lyrical ode to haters being “jealous”), was backed up by TikTok star Dani Russell, who recently asked the internet if being a mum or a creator is harder. And Sydney’s own Jasmin Mitwali went further, declaring she works harder than doctors and teachers.

The “respect us or the posts stop” threat follows months of backlash aimed at Veronica, who famously told the TikTok Awards red carpet last year that influencing “looks fun” but is “hard work”. And no, the internet’s still not done rolling its eyes about it.

So, could we soon face a feed devoid of restaurant recs, GRWMs and unboxings? It’s too early to tell, but in the meantime, we’ll be thinking of the brave souls fighting for our right to know where the best acaii bowls are.
