Drinking margaritas on Wednesday and sweating them out on Thursday should be your plan for this week

|

Yes, I get it. Not only are we in the thick of winter, but we’re at that point in the month where everyone is scraping the bank barrel for our final cents before next payday. If it makes you feel any better, know that we all stand in solidarity together.

That doesn’t mean we have to lock ourselves away from fun this week though, does it?

Of course not, which is why I’ve put together a list of what’s going down this week in the city. Whether it’s keeping warm at authentic Finnish saunas, or getting naughty on a weeknight in celebration of International Tequila Day, there’s stuff happening that’s worth checking out.

Here are the best things to do in Sydney this week.

Seaside Sauna Manly

Call me crazy, but it appears that sauna sessions have officially become the new alternative to drinking, drugs, and sex amongst the Sydney Gen Z population. Good for them, I guess. If you lump yourself into this category, might I recommend you pop over to the Cedar and Salt pop-up Finnish sauna in Manly running until Spring? The uber-Scandi setup is situated on Manly’s Quarantine Beach, and has views that are hard to rival. Each sweat session will also only set you back $35, which is pretty reasonable compared to other places around town.

  • When: Sunrise to sunset, 7 days a week until Spring
  • Where: Cedar and Salt, Manly Quarantine Beach
  • How much: From $35
  • Check it out here.
Corazon Tequila Dinner

Don’t fall into the above class of people who enjoy saunas and 10km runs? Join the club. In which case, may I recommend this week’s Corazon Tequila Dinner in celebration of International Tequila Day. Yes, that’s a thing, and one heck of a deserved celebration if you ask me. Tickets aren’t cheap, but they will score you a five-course meal and seven premium tequila tastings, so there’s decent bang for buck. This is something I’ll definitely be getting round.

  • When: Wednesday 24 July, from 7pm
  • Where: Sweethearts Rooftop
  • How much: $79
  • Check it out here.

$15 Marg Month @ Salty’s Bondi

Last time I checked, it wasn’t a crime to be basic, and thank God for that, because Salty’s is exactly where I’ll be having every post-work drink this month. This Wednesday also marks International Tequila Day, where Salty’s will be slinging $15 margs and DJs until late. Excellent choice for those open to getting rowdy on a weeknight.

  • When: All of July
  • Where: Salty’s Bondi
  • How much: $15 margs
  • Check it out here.
LAST CHANCE FOR: Bernie Dieter’s Club Kabarett

It’s official, Bernie Dieter is back to hosting her opulent eastern Berlin kabarett at the Sydney Spiegeltent. Think debauchery, theatrics, and circus acts all in one show. It feels as if cabaret has suddenly become trendy again this year, and we’ll be the first to admit that we’re here for it. Besides, I’ve personally always wanted to see a hair-hanger. This one’s not for your weak-stomached mates.

  • When: Until Sunday 28 July
  • Where: The Entertainment Quarter
  • How much: From $50
  • Check it out here.
$12 Paella Lunches @ Quay Quarter Lane

Calling all Sydney CBD corporates in North Face puffer vests, this one’s for you. Whoever said it was impossible to find a solid and reasonably priced lunch in the city just wasn’t trying hard enough. This month, the Basque-style pintxos bar in Circular Quay is slinging generous takeaway portions of seafood paella for just $12. Now you know.

  • When: Every Thursday and Friday, lunchtime
  • Where: Deux Frères, Quay Quarter Lane
  • How much: $12
  • Check it out here.
Dracula at the Sydney Theatre Company

Go on, have your goth moment. If you feel like treating yourself to some culture this month, book a ticket to Kip Williams’ theatrical adaptation of Dracula. The director’s latest iteration of the hybrid genre ‘cine-theatre’ should be interesting at the very least. Besides, if you’re going to go into full angsty mode, you might as well do it under the guise of dinner and a show.

  • When: Until Sunday 4 August
  • Where: Roslyn Packer Theatre
  • How much: From $70
  • Check it out here.
