EPISODE RECAP
The MAFS partner swap proved this group is more incestuous than we thought

This season of MAFS has certainly proven that the Aussie singles scene is small. While we are now well aware that two of our couples previously dated (Carina and Paul and Rhi and Jeff) and two other participants had previously hooked up (Teejay and Jamie), it turns out it doesn’t just end there.

This week the experts have decided to shake things up (again) by bringing on Feedback week, which for some reason, means everyone has to partner swap. My favourite part of this show is when they act like this is completely normal, like in the real world you’d go out and shack up with your husband’s mate for three days just to experience a taste of a different life.

Anyway, the controversial partner swap is teasing that two of our once-strongest couples are about to hit a big rough patch. Let’s give some feedback on feedback week, part one.

Carina is distraught that Paul is moving in with Awhina because he used to fuck her twin sister Cleo

THIS SHOW, I SWEAR TO GOD.

Carina probably needs to realise Awhina is hardly going to want to fuck the man her sister has already been with.

While Carina won’t stop crying because the partner goes against her values as a good catholic woman or whatever, Awhina is lowkey thrilled to have a little three-day vacay from Adrian. “I survived my husband for the last 8 weeks, I can survive anyone for 3 days,” she happily declares. You know you could just… leave him, babe.

While Carina can’t move on from the fact Paul is now shacked up with an ex’s twin sister, Paul drops this outrageous line in his confessional. “Literally since day one, I have done nothing for Carina not to trust me,” he says.

Bro, remember the time you punched a wall in a jealous rage? Like last week?

Beth and Ryan continue to hate each other

In the “hard-hitting questions” task, Beth quickly realises Ryan is using the task to attack her rather than to see if she can offer any new or different perspectives on his relationship with Jacqui.

The whole point was that Ryan was meant to ask Beth questions about his relationship and take on any feedback. Instead, he asked questions like, “You’ve spoken quite aggressively about me and my marriage, Is that how you conduct yourself in real life when you don’t have the facts?”

Do you always conduct yourself as a dickhead in real life too, Ryan? That’s a more pressing question.

Beth knows she’s not getting paid nearly enough for this.

Most of the couple swap saga is quite PG and boring

Rhi gives Eliot some advice that he should, you know, show actual interest in his wife, Veronica, and look her in the eye when he talks to her. Eliot seems to think their disconnect comes from the fact he likes reading books, not the fact he appears to be actively ignoring her most of the time.

Jamie and Adrian are getting along like BFFS, and Jamie also mentions being in Eliot’s corner when it comes to his relationship woes with Veronica. Hero of the show Jamie aligning with Adrian and Eliot is not exactly where I saw her story arc going, but OK!!!

Veronica finally has someone who will look her in the eyes.

Meanwhile, Dave and Veronica are also getting along like a house on fire, and we see Dave laughing for the first time in a good week or so.

And Jacqui is stoked to be partnered with Jeff who is steaming her dress and cooking her salmon for dinner, which is a nice change from Ryan lecturing her every other day like a stern teacher.

The honesty letter task hints at the beginning of the end for one of the strongest couples

In her honesty letter to Paul, which she first reads out to Teejay, Carina ponders if she and Paul will have conflicting opinions when it comes to raising their future beautiful children, because she wants them to be God worshippers and he doesn’t believe in religion.

Meanwhile, as Paul reads out his honesty letter to Awhina, he drops some pretty fucking big bombshells.

As he worries about their future compatibility, he also manages to call Carina “a bit of a snob” and says she comes across as “judgy”, two things that are beginning to give him the ick.

Paul over punching walls and is ready to fuck shit up in different ways.

“When I told Carina the reason why I knew you, she made a comment about Cleo that gave me the ick,” Paul then reveals. “She said, ‘Oh I didn’t know you’d go for that kind of calibre.'”

YIKES.

Awhina, of course, is rightfully fuming at this, and tomorrow night Paul allegedly reads this letter out to Carina herself. Man’s got balls, I’ll give him that.
