Stop pussyfooting and start planning people, the weekend is nearly here!!

|

Start of the month peoples! Time to welcome it with a bang. It’s also the last month of winter, so there’s that to celebrate right?! Whatever your prerogative, start making plans for this weekend because they won’t be making themselves.

This weekend, it’s all about culcha. That’s right, food, music, art and fashion, so keep listening if that’s your thing. We’ve got Human Movement, Mincy and Laura King all making appearances throughout the ton, so book your tickets and keep an eye out. Machine Hall is also hosting FFWD, where you’ll score plenty of archive designer items and street cred all in one. For others, culcha comes through Nonna’s spag bol from the Homebush Paddy’s Night Market. Each to their own.

Stop pussyfooting and start planning. Here are the best things to do in Sydney this weekend.

FFWD Festival

If good food, great fashion and live music is your kinda style, look no further than FFWD Festival this week. Kicking off on Thursday, the 4-day celebration will be hosted by fashion concept store Sorry Thanks I Love You. They’ll also be partnering with Icebergs Dining Head Chef, Maurice Terzini, Mike Bennie from P&V, and Julian Hamilton from The Presets. In other words, it’s going to be one hell of a party. A $25 ticket will score you entry into the fashion market during the day, but it might be worth splurging a little more to nab your spot to the Opening Night celebration.

  • When: Thursday 1 to Sunday 4 August
  • Where: Machine Hall
  • How much: From $25.
  • Check it out here.

If really good music is your thing, look no further than Gallery Turns 4 this weekend. The record label will be hosting the likes of Human Movement, Oots, Mincy and others until 4am. Without a doubt, hands down, this will be the best place in town for techno, house and UK garage on Saturday night. What are you waiting for? Time to lock down one of those final release tickets.

Red Bull Turn It Up DJ Battle

Trust me, I know that a good DJ can make or break a night out. You’ll be fine here though, as there’ll be four DJ crews battling it out to reign supreme. Random, I know, but sometimes it’s good to mix things up on the weekend I think. Introducing the Red Bull Turn It Up DJ Battle happening at the Albion Hotel this Saturday night. Expect creative mixes, a wide array of genres, and some serious crowd involvement.

  • When: Saturday 3 August, from 7pm
  • Where: Albion Hotel, Parramatta
  • How much: Free entry.
  • Check it out here.
Laura King @ Basement Mary’s Underground

We’ve gotta thank good ol’ Bondi Lines for giving away this one. Mary’s Underground’s classic Basement Saturday series is gearing up for a mean headliner this week, i.e. no one other than Laura King. Hailed as one of Australia’s most sought after techno artists, you can expect some hard bass and a serious boogie. Use Bondi Line’s $5 discount code to get, well, a $5 discount.

  • When: Saturday 3 August, from 11.30pm
  • Where: Mary’s Underground, Circular Quay
  • How much: $29 (before Bondi Lines discount)
  • Check it out here.
Paddy’s Night Food Markets

It’s the first Saturday of the month, which can mean one and one thing only ladies and gentlemen. Paddy’s is officially bringing back their Night Food Markets for yet another round. Expect over 40 food trucks, craft stalls and a car show. So if you’ve gone off boozing and partying, head over to Homebush and get some loukoumades from an old Greek yiayia. That’ll sort you out.

  • When: Saturday 3 August,
  • Where: 250 Parramatta Road, Homebush West
  • How much: Free entry ($2 parking)
  • Check it out here.
LAST CHANCE FOR Dracula at the Sydney Theatre Company

Go on, have your goth moment. If you feel like treating yourself to some culture this month, book a ticket to Kip Williams’ theatrical adaptation of Dracula. The director’s latest iteration of the hybrid genre ‘cine-theatre’ should be interesting at the very least. Besides, if you’re going to go into full angsty mode you might as well do it under the guise of dinner and a show.

  • When: Until Sunday 4 August
  • Where: Roslyn Packer Theatre
  • How much: From $70
  • Check it out here.
