WHAT'S ON
Everything you need to know about what’s going down this month of February

|

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to February! It’s the last month of summer, and if that’s not a sign to go out with a bang, then I don’t know what is. Silly season is over, but let’s be real, there’s absolutely no reason to not get around it.

And let me tell you, this month is an absolute CRACKER. The sun is shining, the vibes are high, and there’s so much live music, you’ll never be able to validly claim Sydney is dead again.

Highlights include Cockatoo Island’s Sunset Sessions happening every Saturday, A Street Party Named Fitz, and Sydney Opera House’s new production of Picnic At Hanging Rock. As far as live gigs go, you’ve got SHELTER, you’ve got Club Angel, you’ve got PNAU. The list goes on and on and on.

So what are you waiting for? Grab those Google calendars, get that group chat going and start planning, because February’s going to be an absolute winner.

The live music initiative will see breakthrough duo Night Tales take over the Living Room bar for an evening of synth-driven R&B and cracking views of Darling Harbour. Having just come off the back of their North America and Europe tours, Night Tales have emerged as ones to watch. They’ve played at Coachella, and toured with the likes of Channel Tres, Neil Frances and Aluna to name a few. In other words, you know it’ll be good.

Club Angel at Liberty Hall

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’d know that UK speed garage has suddenly become a thing in Sydney. And if you’re a veteran to the scene, I have good news. After dominating lineups at Boiler Room Sydney and Mode Festival, Club Angel is officially back and hosting a serious set this month. With shows described as “visceral journeys”, the artist has played alongside fred again.., Interplanetary Criminal and Sammy Virji. We’re betting this will be one of the best live gigs this month, and somehow, tickets are still left (for now).

A Street Party Named Fitz

Ahh summer, the time for street parties, spritzes and now, the fitz. Yes, you’re correct, The Old Fitzroy Hotel is pulling the heavy weights this month in hosting the ultimate inner city street party. Kicking off at 12pm on Sunday 9, the historic streets around Woolloomooloo will play host to live entertainment, food stalls and drink stands – all in support of the iconic Old Fitz Theatre. This will mark the second year of the celebration, and if last year is anything to go by, it’ll be a goodie.
