In an announcement made late last night, Meghan Markle has been confirmed as a guest judge on MasterChef Australia, further expanding her current “private” tour of Australia into the culinary space.
Full details are yet to be released. However, early reports suggest the challenge will likely centre around marmalade, with contestants expected to create a preserve that reflects their childhood, personal growth and, where possible, a formative emotional setback.
Sources close to production say the brief will lean heavily into themes of “authenticity” and “vulnerability”, with at least one contestant anticipated to describe their dish as “a reflection of who I was, and who I’m becoming”, while quietly overcooking a mandarin in the background.
“It’s about storytelling”, one insider explained. “And also sugar ratios”.
The appearance has been framed as a natural extension of Markle’s broader itinerary while in Australia, which spans across mental health advocacy, honouring veterans, and consuming green smoothies on Coogee beach.
Despite the technical complexity expected from contestants, industry experts have confirmed the resulting marmalade will not, under any circumstances, be eaten.
At time of writing, the segment is expected to deliver a mix of emotional breakthroughs, soft piano backing tracks and at least one standing ovation for something that is, at its core, citrus in a jar.
