VERY CULTURED
All the best places to listen to the Triple J Hottest 100 Countdown this Saturday

|

Let’s be totally honest, the best thing we’re all looking forward to this long weekend is Triple J’s Hottest 100 Countdown. Kicking off at midday on Saturday 25 January, the annual affair never fails to bring punters, music nerds and everyone else in between together.

In a time where one’s Countdown vote can be more revered than one’s political vote, it’s no secret that Triple J goers take the affair seriously. And that’s okay, because it’s good to have passions. But for everyone else who’s just looking for an excuse to party, make sure to prepare yourself for the inevitable onslaught of Naarm-core boys crying in the corner when Olivia Rodrigo ultimately wins.

For those who are, in fact, just looking for a bit of fun, we’ve got you covered. Because when it comes to Hottest 100 day, you’re more or less guaranteed to find every local pub full. But for those who are looking to lock in some more solid plans (ie bookable tables and loud music), you’ll find a full list below of every venue hosting an official event.

And if you’re looking to fill your Saturday with other activities, you might as well head over here to check out our monthly guide.

Taphouse Rooftop

Taphouse’s new Euro-inspired revamp last year has pioneered it into what is probably one of the best rooftop pubs in Sydney. It’s also known to host a consistently good Hottest 100 party. In other words, it’s our top pick when it comes to planning for this Saturday. The venue will be opening its doors from 11:30am, so you’ll be able to snag a seat before it all kicks off. They’ve also got a cracking Cantonese menu thanks to Head Chef Sam Ng, and a Spritz Month special that you can take advantage of.

Newtown Hotel

Realistically, the Newtown pubs just get it. And arguably, none get it more than the Newtown Hotel. So it shouldn’t come as any surprise that they’re also hosting their very own Hottest 100 Countdown party this Saturday. Their annual event has become known for their cracking food and drink specials, as well as boasting the wonderful convenience of a post-countdown live DJ. Think $18 for a kilo of buffalo wings, $22 cocktail jugs, and one really big headache come Sunday morning (in the best way possible).

  • WHERE: Newtown Hotel, Newtown
  • HOW MUCH: Free entry

General Gordon Hotel

$20 beer jugs and a sunny terrace is more than enough for the General Gordon Hotel to offer to keep us interested. The Sydenham institution is the perfect option for Inner West baddies who don’t want to go broke this long weekend. Nice, different, unusual. We love. They’re promising live and loud music, and at the end of the day, that’s all we really care about.

Salisbury Hotel

If you haven’t already got the memo that the Inner West kind of owns the Triple J Countdown, then now’s you’re time. And it appears the Salisbury Hotel has also caught Saturday fomo, kicking off their own celebrations come 12pm. You’ll also be able to time it perfectly with their Summer of Margaritas special, which doesn’t sound dangerous at all.

Public House Petersham

Public House Petersham is also promising to turn the music up loud this Saturday, hosting their own Hottest 100 Countdown gig. They’re also serving up one of the best beer gardens in town, making it the perfect place to plonk in the sun with a cold one. Kicking off the festivities at 12pm, the Petersham institution is yet another solid option.
