Charlize Theron and Taron Egerton papped filming Netflix thriller ‘Apex’ in The Shire

We might be known as a small country, but my god is Australia good at attracting some of Hollywood’s biggest and best names. From Paul Mescal, to Kate Winslet, Renee Zellweger and even Matt Damon, us Sydneysiders have truly been blessed as of late with some serious talent on our shores.

This week, added into the mix is none other than Charlize Theron and Taron Egerton. Where did we spot them, you might be wondering? Bondi Beach? A Merivale establishment? No…It was The Shire, of course.

It appears that rather than exploring the sights and sounds of Sydney, these two A-listers are taking their work very seriously. We papped them in the midst of filming Netflix’ all-new thriller, Apex, which also stars Aussie homegrown talent Eric Bana.

And while we might not yet have a release date in sight, it’s safe to say that we’re already gearing up for this film. Directed by Baltasar Kormákur, the film traces a grieving woman (played by Theron), who seeks solace in the Australian wilderness. Ultimately, the thriller part kicks in once she realises she’s being tracked by a serial killer (naturally).

“For a film like Apex — where the elements and the terrain are characters that loom just as large as the movie stars battling in it — no other country in the world could have taken the place of Australia as our primary location,” Kormákur tells Netflix.
